Below are the most common questions we receive each day:
Question – “How much is rent?”
Answer – Typically, lower than the average for a semi-detached rental.
Each member of Kingston Co-operative Homes is expected to contribute time each month in the maintenance of the property, or participate in the management of the required tasks to keep everything running smoothly. This not only builds a sense of community, but it also helps to reduce the housing charges below the current average for a semi-detached home.
We have multiple unit types, each at different prices, and some of our units are geared to income levels of the member, which is supported by government backed programs. The co-op does increase housing charges yearly, very similar to what a common apartment would experience, which makes keeping a public record difficult to maintain. The application page shows rental values from 2017. When your application is next in line, we will contact you to work out all of the details.
Question – “I submitted an application, when will I be called?”
Answer – When your application is next in line.
We are always receiving new applications for a limited number of housing units.
Each time a co-op member moves out we open the application wait list. Joining the wait list by submitting an online application is the only way to ensure you are in the queue.
Due to the high demand of inquiries each day, we are not able to answer questions about submitted applications at this time. All inquiries about applications or your position on the waiting list will be not receive a reply. Thank you for understanding.
Question – “I need housing soon, is this possible?”
Answer – Unfortunately, no.
The wait list system keeps it fair for all applicants.
Units become available only when current members move out. Each newly available unit is then filtered by the application wait list for a best match based on the applicant still being interested in co-op housing, and their current financial requirements.
